seriously - be yourself and be different. sound like something all your teachers say, but it's true. the admissions office loves things that are different. maybe instead of a regular essay, turn your paper into a story or metaphor. be creative - you can even be funny as long as you keep it smart. there is a book i thinks its called "college essay's that work" or something like that... try to find it on Amazon..it has a compilation of essays that got kids into good schools. it should help you get an idea.

Be honest and don't try to fake your way through it or lie. College admissions counselors have seen it all. Try to inject a little of yourself into each essay-tell about a real experience you went through, a real problem you faced, what you really expect to get out of your school (but don't say that you can't wait to party, even if its true), etc. Like I said College Admissions have seen it all, so make sure your essay is honest, stays on the topic of the question asked, and shows a little about yourself.
Good luck!

Check your spelling and punctuation very carefully. Make it interesting and keep it to the correct length and on topic. I used to be part of a committee to review grad school essays and you would be amazed how many were discarded immediately due to spelling and punctuation. Also some people wrote about intimate or shocking personal things which were just TOO much information and not appropriate.

Brainstorm with your guidance councilor.
After you write a rough draft give it to a parent or friend to do an initial check.
Then give it to your guidance councilor for a review.
After that give it to an English teacher for a final review.
