Belly buttons stink because no one cleans it out like they should. You need to swab it with soap and/or rubbing alcohol. One time, I was digging in there, and I bet I found 20 year dried ambilical cord blood in there. ewwwwww. *shivers* Then it started hurting cuz I went too far inside. Needless to say, I don't spend too much time cleaning my belly button anymore. lol

Nope, they don't all stink. It just means there is probably a lot of gunk (lint, sweat, etc) in the smelly belly botton, and maybe some sort of infection/fungal growth if it's REALLY stinky.
You can try cleaning the belly button out with a damp q-tip (just water or rubbing alcohol, because any soap residue left in there will make it stink more after a while), but be gentle. Doing this after a bath in which the belly has been soaked will probably help the cleaning go faster. Once it's clean, a swabbing once or twice a week should be enough to maintain it.

The health issue is not washing your belly button.
Sweat and oils get trapped in there providing a nice environment for bacteria to grow. Bacteria cause the odor.
Wash you belly button!

They shouldn't...but it's very easy for them to get a little "gamey." Sweat and dirt can collect in the folds of the umbilicus, and it leads to odor. Cleaning it daily with deodorant soap and a Q-Tip can help with the odor...as will using a cornstarch-based powder to help absorb sweat and odor.

Try washing it really well when you bathe, it's just a tight area so it collects stuff.
