I have a Virgin Mobile phone - it was $89 for the phone and it's $42 a month for 300 day minutes and 1000 night (starts at 7PM) & weekend minutes. I can get on the internet with my phone - but that cost another $1 per day or I think it is $5 for the month - I have only used the internet on my phone once - it was kind of slow - but I only need to get directions so it was fine. My phone can also do AIM - but I've never used that feature.

Internet access by itself generally runs $40.00 plus. Standard cell phone calling plans featuring adequate minutes have increased dramatically to typically $50.00 monthly.
Even at that, anytime minutes are frequently offered in the evenings, not during daytime (peak) hours.
Cell phone companies have massive payroll and operation costs constantly causing increases.
