Unfortunately, the Constitution gets bastardized on a regular basis. The Constitution set up a limited federal government, with all other powers reserved to the States. That's not exactly what the federal government looks like today. Those on the left don't seem to have a problem messing with the Second Amendment (the right to bear arms). Therefore, while Bush's comment may have been ill-advised, it seems to be a common feeling in Washing ton.

IF this is accurate as to what Bush allegedly said about the Constitution he should be impeached ASAP!! The founding Fathers of this USA were and remain light years ahead of
the people who we have elected to represent us.

However let me be very clear as to why the Constitution is and has been ignored, violated, etc. It is and remains
the responsibility of the people of this nation to DEMAND
that the Constitution be followed to the letter!

When any one of these people who are running for President,
senator, congressman, etc the first DEMAND of the voter is that this person is going to abide and follow the Constitution.

We are now in a semi police state and bordering on a full dictatorship. If we all don't wake up and demand accountability from the people we elect then we are FINISHED!

This has already been bantied about but it shows his contempt for the Constitution. Others in his Administration have shown the same kind of contempt for it. While Republicans in general don't seem to be contemptuous of the Constitution they do seem to avidly support those who are. This total disregard for the one document Americans hold near and dear will cost the GOP even more in 2008 than it did in 2006.

Considering the actions and policies that Bush and his administration have brought forth I am not in the least bit surprised he feels that way towards our Constitution.

Makes perfect sense. This is the reason, as a liberal, that I fully support the 2nd Amendment.

I'll bet dollars to donuts, that Bush tries to circumvent his term limit and stay in power. If that happens, better believe that the guns are coming out.

Well then, I think we need a new Pres., and this time one who will up hold all of the Constitution, not only the ones that serve His/Her perpousses.

Blessed Be.

As the Constitution is "just a piece of paper", "Commander in Chief" is just a title. He can't have it both ways - we have to either respect both the "paper" and his "title" or neither deserves any respect at all.

First of all, I have my doubts that Bush said that.

But secondly, I can believe that Bush does not know much of anything about how to interpret the Constitution.

Thirdly, I don't want to hear from modern liberals about how they cherish the Constitution more so than conservatives, since the liberals seem to constantly see things in the Constitution that aren't even there ....... for example, the right to have abortions or the right to have sex (sodomy).

The claim was never substantiated.

Name the person who said he heard that, and let him answer questions to test his veracity.

Until then, I say the story's as bogus as the National Guard memos.

PS An example of a more credible statement is Clinton's "better put some ice on that," said to Juanita Broaddrick after he bit her lip to prevent her from escaping, and then raped her.

All according to her, someone willing to go on the record by name and have her story challenged, and corroborated.
