Compared to 17" lcd analog, will a 19" lcd digital wide screen monitor cause more eyestrain or something? I don't have enough room to sit far from the monitor.

Currently set at 1152x864 but sometimes I set it to 1280x1024 when watching videos.

About the same, or slightly better.

A 17" conventional screen has a resolution of 96 pixels per inch.

A 19" widescreen has a resolution of 83 pixels per inch.

So on the 19" wide text and icons will be about 8% larger than on the 17"

You may find that you move your head more to cover the extra width of the widescreen but unless you have a neck problem, that is probably a good thing.

The height of the 19" widescreen is actually slightly less than the 17", so with the reduced resolution you will get less information vertically on the screen.

You should always pick the monitor which is suited to your workspace.

If you're sitting 6 inches from the screen in a tiny space in your home then installing a larger monitor would do you no good and could cause eyestrain and other problems.

It depends more on the resolution than the size. If you set your 19" monitor to 1024 x 768, you will have a very readable screen, and the size is fine for most anything you need to do. I personally prefer 1280 x 1024 on a 19", but the text size is fairly small, and depending on what your current resolution is, it may be too small.

What is your current screen resolution?
