Why does my computer stop working after a while?
I know it is old, but i CAN'T GET A NEW ONE until next year!
I keep formating it.
WHAT DOES IT NEED?
Yesterday it was working well and yesterday i successfully downloaded Service Pack 2 (SP2).
Today i turned it on it had an error so i tryed repairing it but it didn't work so i formatted it.
So i am asking you people to help me. I am only 12 years old.
Answers that will be reported:
1. Throw it and buy a new computer.
2. Silly answers / I don't know
3. Just keep formating it until you get a new computer.
4. Don't download anything on it.
READ CAREFULLY

Ok I had the same problem with my old computer. The problem is the hard drive you have is kinda currupted.
The things I recomend to do:
Download SP 2 -
2. In some magazines like CHIP they give out free disks and some of them have Windows Service Pack 3 - so I would recomend getting the disk.
3. Always backup your computer.
4. Get CCleaner and run the Registry and Cleanup Scans and remove all the files that are found because theyre junk files.
Lastly, if that does not work - go to GeekSquad or FireDog
Ask them what is wrong with your computer and they will tell you. They may offer service - but look how much they charge for it. If they say that a driver is missing then just get it off the internet.
- Hope that helps

hey, take it from anther 12 year old who had the same problem, if you can at least start it up to get to where you can delete stuff, uninstall service pack 2. if you don't have any stuff you cant stand deleting, wipe it. that will make it as if it was brand new. but keep in mind, I'm pretty sure you need a windows disk to make it work. also, you never specified what brand, like if its dell. if it is dell, then you cant have at&t browser. dell isn't compatible with at&t.
I'm not sure about all of this though, except for the dell stuff. sorry if i didn't help...

Well, the answer really depends on the exact error message your getting. Sometimes faulty ram modules can cause system crashes, sometimes it might be bad sectors in the hard drive. For example, I had a maxtor drive that went bad on me, I formatted it and it seemed to work, but when I shut down my computer and restarted it, it was unable to locate certain files that were needed in order to boot windows. So, in order for someone to be able to help you further, please give further details as to what the message reads and when you receive the error message.

Buy/beg/borrow a new hard drive, clean instal OS and recover what you need from your old drive by setting it as slave. Ask help from older sib/dad/mum/school IT dept to do it. Assuming the HD is your problem

first, it could be your hard drive is failing. also you may have a boot sector virus and the only wy to get rid of that is to run a debug script. it goes further than a reformat as it take all of the info from the first sector of your hard drive.

You are technically not supposed to be asking a question here, since you are under 13 years old:

It's impossible to answer your question without knowing what the error is.
