Here are some facts forwarded to me by email by some colleagues:

"I heard through the grapevine about a remark made on an episode of
> "Desperate Housewives" last night. The scene entailed Teri Hatcher's
> character (Susan) at a hospital, being told by her gynecologist
> that she might be hitting menopause. Susan replied, "Can I just
> check those diplomas because I just want to make sure that they are
> not from some med school in the Philippines." If you go to abc.com,
> you can watch the full episode and witness the scene at about 18:50
> minutes into the episode."

"Accdg to one Filipino client of ours, Teri Hatcher actually asked for non-Filipino nurses/doctors when she was in a CA hospital. The hospital admin told her she has to look for another hospital, since everyone who had anything to do with patients was Filipino. Apparently this line is HER OWN AD LIB, based on her REAL-LFE FRUSTRATION that she not be touched or cared for by Filipinos... "

I can see why they would be offended, I would be too.
The problem is that many north americans have misconceptions about schools in other countries. They think that somehow, it's at a lower level than the school here, when that couldn't be further from the truth.
You ask anyone that has done schooling overseas, and they will all say the same thing: school is much harder there than it is here.
The truth is that the American education is at a much lower level than many other countries out there, you just have to check the stats to see that it's true.
Its a shame that more people don't recognize non-american schools.

This feels like gossip piled on hearsay piled in information superhighway rumor to me. specific, the character that Teri Hatcher performs on that tutor stated the line. this does not mean that the ACTRESS Teri Hatcher possesses the comparable point of racism as her character. So have we finished making a mountain out of a molehill? in case you certainly need to protest this, take on your beef with ABC, not with the actress who examine the strains, when you consider that they approved the strains and/or wrote them.

It's a comedy show, lighten up.

Geezus I'm sick of everyone getting grievously offended every time some one opens their yap.
