You raise a good point but I believe it would be a mistake for Cardinals management to let LaRussa depart or force him to leave.

LaRussa and Jocketty have been together for years. I was stunned to hear Jocketty announce he was stepping down; instead being curious to see if LaRussa might retire (he commented this was the toughest/longest/most stressful season he ever had as a manager just 3 days ago). Rumors abound of a power struggle in the Cardinals brain trust and I guess that was evident with the departure of Walt. With Walt stepping down, LaRussa in my mind is forced to weigh the long term consequences of that decision: yes, consider LaRussa GONE. I bet he makes an announcement before your can pick a Best Answer to your question.
The follow up question then becomes: What is the future of the Cardinals now?

Any time a GM is fired or resigns, there is a very good bet that the Manager will go as well. The owner must now hire a new GM and that person usually wants his own personnel under him to manage. However, good steady managers like LaRussa are hard to find and he may be an exception to the rule. I'm sure that as soon as the new GM is named, he will sit down with Tony and discuss strategies and ways to improve the ball club. I'd say LaRussa coming back is only 50/50 at best.

Jocketty did no longer step down, he became fired. in spite of the undeniable fact that, he additionally wasn't extremely joyful with the front place of work concern there so it became greater of a "mutual" element, even although technically it wasn't (how puzzling is that lol). l. a. Russa is predicted to choose this week. Duncan is predicted to do despite Tony does. i'm hoping l. a. Russa continues to be.

LaRussa is whining a lot lately, so I assume he will be elsewhere soon.

I read Tony was leaving also..can't fault him.I think he wants some new challenges. He's one of the best and I think the Cards will try to keep him,but he will go where he feels the best opportunities are.(Maybe his buddy Jim Leyland (our manager)will give him some advice.)

As long as Tony is not allowed to drive, I hope he follows.
