Yes I did I got someone in to have a look at the computer he did and said he would have to take it away and what he'd be doing would take about 20 hours he rang me then and said I needed an external modem so I agreed it cost me 160.00 I paid. He left the box and it was an internal modem someone I know got me someone to look at it and what he'd done shouldn't have cost me more than 40.00 I tried to get my money back sent a letter recorded delivery and I never heard a thing it was a company called Inside Computers near Coventry, ha more inside your purse what a rip off.

I've never been conned like in your link BUT a pal and I where standing at a bus stop one night and this guy come up and asks us if we smoked, we said no thinking he wanted to bum a ciggie from us but he said he was selling cartons of cigs for £15......... we were a bit drunk and thought great what a bargain so he asked us for an empty carrier bag to put them in as he kept them round the corner away from the busy street and cctv cameras.............. so we gave him the bag,,,, he came back and said right that will be 15 quid darlin and handed us the bag, so we gave him the money and off he went.
Our bus arrived and we jumped on and opened the bag to see an empty folded up cereal box.
My pal was raging but all i could do was PMSL. We stupidly got done out of £7.50 each.

no, i sympathize with them because they are too trusting. I have received the same emails - I think it's generally the elderly population that get conned because they aren't aware of how bad the world is.
At our local supermarket we have Western Union wiring service - there was a lady's name in big letters up for the workers to see - it was telling them to not let her wire any money for any reason because she had been conned so many times and that was her family's only way of putting a stop to it. She just kept sending money thinking she was going to get a big prize
It's really sad

sometimes its greed. but a lot of people fall for these scams some of the emails they send are very harrowing and some people just want to help them as they say they are dying or their children are ill some are good samaritans that get conned! by the same nigerian conmen plague ebay as well. however ebay does little about and we all know why they dont but as long as they find a way to ply their cons they will continue.

After spending the past hour on the phone to Dell, talking to 20 different Indian guys who didn't have a clue where my dad's computer is (even though they're supposed to be repairing it), I'm beginning to think I have been.

Greed and naivety - people should realise that the chances of them having suddenly deceased relatives in the Rann of Kush or remote countries on the African continent are little and none. Just put it down to one more triumph of greed and Cupidity over common sense. If you ain't bought a ticket - you ain't won the prize.

out of it.

Oh yes! twice in the last 10 years but they were serious and one was an in law and the other a close friend (I thought). It`s the greed of the person conning them (Which happened in my case) so yes, i would sympathise in the same sort of situation...

A neighbour told me about this guy who is a builder thinking he would be good as he was recommended I employed him. Later I found out not only was he illegal he also ran off with my material before finishing the job. It has taught me not to trust anyone.
