Reading as:-
(1/2) b + 4 = (1/8) b + 88
4b + 32 = b + 704
3b = 672
b = 224
OR do you mean:-
1 / (2b + 4) = 1 / (8b + 88)
8b + 88 = 2b + 4
6b = - 84
b = - 14

1/2b + 4 = 1/8B + 88
-4 -4
1/2b = 1/8b + 84
-1/8b -1/8b
3/8b = 84
*8/3 *8/3
b = 224
You just have to remeber whatever you do, has to be done to both sides of the equation. Then you try and get the variables all on one side and solve.

The most important thing to do is to get the variables on one side of the equation.
(1/2b+4)-1/8b=1/8b+88-1/8b
1/2b-1/8b+4-4=88-4
Since you can't subtract mixed fractions , find the lowest common denominator ...1/2=4/8
4/8b-1/8b=84
3/8b=84
Solve for b.

subtract the 4 and add it into the other side.
move the 1/8b to the other side.
now add both sides. and solve for b.
