Dislike:
1. The fact that it is a rich man's government.
2. The fact that the real decisions are made by unseen players while front men masquerade as leaders.
3. The way they all dodge accountability.
Like:
1. The principle behind constitutional democracy.
2. The fact that I can go sit in and watch them work, even if I often despise what I see.
3. The idea of free speech, even if it seems a little lopsidedly applied.
have to wonder about: people like your first two or three answerers, who want to do away with the system and allow only single party rule.
If I suggested any of that, they'd call me treasonous.

1) Career politics
When a person's career depends on the way they bend the truth, how can anyone expect him/her to tell the truth? There are too many incentives to lying and governing without regard to the public's true best interests. Holding office needs to be an incentiveless, voluntary job.
2) Campaign styles
Government and politics have become so complex that a main part of politicians' job is to keep the public dumbed down debating what are often ultimately very simplistic, hot-button, even irrelevant rhetoric. Worse, campaigns cost so much money that it's often the actors, businesspeople, and disgustingly wealthy who end up running for office. While some of these people do well, it's hard to imagine that such people even have the capacity to truly hold the virtues and needs of ordinary citizens in mind.
3) Inefficiency
Do you know how long it takes to draft a bill? There are countless provisions added to every bill, and many are rejected entirely because of small, specific details. Our world is moving so fast, and yet our policy development happens at a snail's pace.
The things I like about our government are purely theoretical, and do not reflect the de facto state of our governmental functions.

I vote for the sweep. Keep our original blueprint but quit screwing with it. As for future politicians, they need to be real people and make a 'national average' wage. After their service in office, they should have the same benefits that the average citizen has to look forward to. You know, unemployment or if they live long enough, social security and medicare.

lack of effectiveness
lack of efficiency
and lack of intelligence
we need to get off the two party system so everyone can be represented proportionally and candidates have equal footing to be elected without Republican/Democratic association. get big business influence/money out of politics. quit acting like we're better than everyone else in the world (the world police system should be a coalition i.e. the UN)

It allows religion to infest our country, tramples the freedoms of its own people, will fund health care for prisoners and people we are at war with but now its own citizens.
