i hardly think democracy is absent of fear! how do you think our politicians convince us to do anything? by rationally arguing that their viewpoint is morally, socially, and economically correct? HAH! they control us by telling us we are under attack and that we need to be afraid. Democracy in definition has nothing to do with fear, but in practice works hand in hand with it. oh how i only wish it was absent of fear

Obviously, the coiner of that definition never heard of "The Tyranny of the Majority", nor did they read of the decline and dissolution of democracy in the Athenian city-state.

Fear and democracy can certainly go together. An ideal modern liberal democracy (liberal in the sense of the Enlightenment, not in the sense of current politics) will allow everyone to live together in peace and contentment. However, living up to that ideal in a real society is more difficult than many would think.

Are you serious? "Too much fear", is more like it. And, that's mostly due to political correctness, not the act of actually being scared.
I take back that first response....how bout, "Afraid to get sued"? There are plenty of ballsy people in this world, lol.
