According to current scientific knowledge, there is no physical evidence that "classic" dragons ever existed. But, to play the "bible card" there are references in Genesis to a second faction of rogue angels that manifested physically on the earth in order to be worshipped as Gods and Goddesses, have sexual relations with humans, and generally party like mad, among other things. The worship of these "gods" gave rise to all the myths and pagan religions around the world, and there may have been a very real manifestation behind all the animal headed gods of Egypt, the Fomorians of ancient Celtic legend, the Nordic story of Loki and his three monstrous children Hel, the Fenris Wolf, and Jormungarder the Midgard Serpent (which relates to Leviathan), to mention just a few. The offspring of these rogue angels were reportedly monstrous in nature, or highly powerful demihumans, and one of their last groups were supposedly the Giants of Canaan, wiped out by Joshua. Interestingly, Goliath may have been one of the Canaanite Giants, and it is possible that he fled to the Philistines. The Philistines did worship Dagon and Baal, after all, and those two may have once been members of the angelic community. The kicker and how it relates to dragons is this: the offspring of the Nephilim (the rogue angels) would have been half mortal and half divinely natured, allowing them to exist as immortals on this plane of existence, but returning totally to the spirit world when slain. Many of our legends may have been based on real creatures that vanished utterly when destroyed, children and grandchildren of the Nephilim, removed by God so as not to provide confusion and debate in the historical and archeological record centuries later.

Yes, dragons do exist. I am serious. I was told by some spiritual people (they don't know each other) who I've never met before told me that I have a couple of dragon spirits around me. They actually describe the dragons and why they are with me. People who like dragons a lot have deep connections with dragons. Since you love dragons, there is a deep spiritual connection between you two. You probably have many dragon spirits around you and have worked with many dragons spirits in another dimension. Long, long time ago, dragons and humans (human in that time have psychic powers) live together. But because of some kind of miscommunication, human began slaughtering dragons. It even became like a contest to see who slaughtered the most. Many dragons were killed and became depopulated. The dragons called out for help to the masters above. With the help of the masters, they were able to flee to another dimension. Dragons are very powerful etheric beings. They can be as tall as the building and as small as a mouse. They can change their appearance; can have wings, or no wings, to black or red or other color, can look cartoonist or evil. You do have a great spiritual connection with dragons, that's why you love them. Everything that we like or dislike in this world has a reason to it. Nothing just come out of the blue. There's a reason for everything.

What's a dragon? Lots of things do exist or have existed that might be considered a dragon. There's the komodo dragon. There were Pterydactyls. There are some pretty big crocodiles. But what you mean is some kind of magical being, right? Something you know doesn't really exist? Come on now, I think you're really asking, "How can we be so sure that things that don't exist don't exist?"

Until someone finds the remains of a "dragon" there is no way of knowing for sure. Just the mere fact that so many ancient cultures have drawings and writings of animals that seem to be very similar to dragons is pretty convincing evidence.

Is it possible, yes. Just because the science proved they could not fly (still debatable hollow bones and such could make it possible for a very thin and lite weight dragon to fly) does not mean their was no non-flying "dragons". I doubt there are any left in the world. OK I have wasted enough time on this subject.

Generally, lack of evidence. It is for this same reason that people generally don't believe that there are blue unicorns on the moon, or other such things.

It is possible that dragons (or blue unicorns) once existed, but without any evidence we have no reason to believe that they did.

Keep in mind that different cultures had very different "dragons." The European dragon has almost no similarities with the Asian dragon, for example. Thus, even ancient records can't collaborate their existance.

Well...

There were flying dinosaurs...

I've seen pictures of fossils with gaps in their faces that might hold combustibles...(you know, voliatile bio-fluid)

And the Chinese and Old English sure wrote about them a lot...China and England sure are far away...As well as Alexander the Great.

Coincidence?

I think that's far less likely than dragons never existing. Maybe they weren't the huge beasts of legend, maybe the "fire" was just acid(you know how legends are) But I believe it was totally possible. And I really believe that such things existed. Hell, the Komodo DRAGON is the most poisonous lizard in the world. Perhaps there were once beasts who thought we were tasty with ketchup.

Even if you found physical proof, a lot of people wouldn't accept it. It's mostly up to you because they live in a spiritual realm. They're fun. You should try talking to one. ; )
Anyway, dragons are one of the very few "mythical" creatures that have existed in various areas of the world. Each area had their own versions of dragons and what they looked like and how they fit into their legends. This was long before people could just hop on a plane and hit up China. It's kind of interesting when you think about it that way.

Well we can't be 100% sure, but we can assume with some confidence that dragons and dinosaurs are very closely tied. Its is probably that ancient cultures mistook dino fossils for "dragons" and then they persisted in folklore.

And even though I am a Christian, I am not going to use "they are in the Bible angle". The Bible aslo says the world was created in 6 days and its been (mis)translated a gazillion times.

There was a special on Science Channel a few years ago about the plausibility of dragons and how they would have lived and existed. They determined in the end that such an animal simply could not have existed because of, of all thing, energy. The energy needed to support such a huge, flying, fire breathing animal is just not plausible. The energy needed to lift a 2-3 ton animal off the ground just would not work. The muscles would need be so big, heavy and massive that it couldn't get off the ground.

Occam's Razor:

“ entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem, ”
which translates to:
“ entities should not be multiplied beyond necessity. ”

Meaning that you can only be sure of a statement if no assumptions were made or multiplied in the creation of that statement. We make lots of assumptions when we start talking about dragons, so the question you should be asking is: "how can we ever be absolutely sure dragons exist(ed)?"
