Actually I don't see any Italian player I could compare with Baggio (both Del Piero and Totti, suggested by several answerers, look to me not so close to be compared with him).
Talking in perspective I guess, even if I'm an Juventus team's supporter and he's currently playing in our rival team Fiorentina, the one that could reach in future (not yet now however...!!) a level comparable to Baggio is Riccardo MONTOLIVO (22 years old).
Another one that I like and I bet will be a champion in the next years is Gabriele PAONESSA (20 years old); he's currently playing in the Avellino (serie B) while last year he was playing
in Vicenza's team. Both players have a very good technic and a clear picture of the game.

Paolo Rossi can be compared but not current. Hopefully with the new generation of young players we will have some-one to compare to Baggio.

I agree, Baggio was quite uncomparable. He's a legend...Though, if I had to choose, For me its Totti. He is enormously talented and is in great form right now so I think he is the one who comes the closest. Like JuventAus said though, maybe in the near or distant future, there will be a youngester who'll be comparable with him :)

you must have been watching a different world cup from me. cannavaro never took a penalty kick. the only comparison you can make is no current Italian player is like Baggio.

that is not a criticism , such a disappointment when he left for Milan and later played for Inter

Not many players are like Baggio.
I would say Paolo Rossi would be close in comparison to Baggio.

andrea pirlo. noone else can compare.baggio belongs to a different class of players altogether. i dont think anyone in the whole can compare except for zidane. zidane probably is a better player.

but in comtemporary times, andrea has potential that cannot be defined. not all italian players are as good. del piero is like a small pawn when compared with the king. and totti like a grain of sand in your palm, compared to baggio.

lol @ sap_6b_rules That's ridiculous.

Not one came to mind. I think Baggio may be in a class of his own. Del Piero when he was in his prime but no one currently.

Totti and Del Pierro but if I have to choose one then it will be Totti..he is a top goal scorer and has a lot of skills just like Baggio

I think the closest you can get is Lavezzi from Napoli. He is young, very skillful, and has a lot of upside. Unfortunately, Italian teams frown on individual play, so it is possible he will not develop as well as I would like to see.
