In the context of computer software, a Trojan horse is a program that installs malicious software while under the guise of doing something else. Though not limited in their payload, Trojan horses are more notorious for installing backdoor programs which allow unauthorized non permissible remote access to the victim's machine by unwanted parties - normally with malicious intentions.

The name trojan comes from the trojan horse used by ancient soldiers of Troy. A large wooden horse was "abandoned" near the enemy fortress. The defenders liked the look of this prize and took it inside to admire it. That night soldiers hidden inside the horse crept out and opened the main gate and let in the attackers.
The modern equivalent is a harmless looking email or similar that when you open it allows another program hidden inside to attack your system from the inside.

Like the trojan horse, it is not as it seems as it is out to destroy your computer resources. These are files sent to your computer which can either be a virus or a malware.

A software trojan is a program advertised to do one thing, while, really intended to do something else.
Typically, it appears to be some kind of porn, or stolen software, or hot game, but in reality installs code on your machine that deletes your access, takes over your internet, etc.

A Trojan is a virus that inserts itself hiding behind something you have downloaded, such as an mp3 or a porno site.
You need cleaning programs to get rid of them.
