The way I look at this is that cancer is CURABLE. And there are things that I can actively do to prevent it...so I am not worried by it. (I quit smoking more than 10 years ago. I eat a balanced diet, and get all the exercise my body allows.)
But Alzeheimers....there just is NO CURE. You can do "brain exercises" that would slow down the onset, but you can't PREVENT it, and that is the key.
I can accept the thought of dying in considerable pain after a long hard fight with cancer. What scares the bejeezus out of me is the thought of LIVING with the ME that I know now gone for good -- never to be seen again!

I've had cancer and am still alive and well. I look after Alzheimer's sufferers, and would not wish it on anyone. Since my mother had it, I'm aware that I'm slightly more likely to get it, and yes I'm concerned about that possibility. I'm not sure that "afraid" is the right term - I live with a positive outlook, and try not to be afraid of anything that might happen in the future.

I would rather die of cancer than have Alzheimer's for years. Does that mean I'm more afraid of Alzheimer's? I'm not overly worried about either one. Neither seems to run in my family,

Alzheimers by far is the more frightening for me. I smoke and have set a quit date. But by far would deal with cancer better than becoming a vegatable that eats, sleeps and had other body functions.

I have given up living in fear of getting anything . You could get hit by a truck waiting for a bus in a bus shelter. We live near an airport and a plane could fall from the sky! I find worrying about "what if's " to be a waste of energy and time . I did a lot of that in my younger years but finally saw the error of my ways.

I don't go to websites since my last virus. I will answer the question as written. I would rather have my mental abilities so that I could determine my care for cancer. And why just women????!!!!!

I think both...but Alzheimers would be worse...not knowing family, etc. Some people DO know they have the disease. and know what is happeing to them. I just don't want to be a burden to someone.
