1. Shutdown OS.
2. Remove current device.
3. Install new device using same slot and cables.
4. Go into BIOS and make appropriate change.
5. Boot up.

Is this right? Is there anything more I should know about?

The new DVD device should include a diagram and description of the exact steps to take. The only clarifications I can see (and you may have left them off for the sake of being brief) are:

1) Shutdown OS and unplug the system power cable.

2) Ensure you discharge any static electricity by touching a metal part of the case before handling any components. Remove current drive and note any jumper pin settings (master/slave pin position) for setting on the new drive.

4) System should not require any BIOS updates.

6) Install new device driver (and possibly writer software)

The writer software from the CD writer may be older than that available with the DVD writer.

Jim posted a good answer. The only thing I would add to his response would be to check the jumpers of new drive and set them the same way as your old drive (prior to installation). For example, if you your old drive was set as secondary master, you should set the new drive to the same setting.
