I have 6.85 Canadian dollars, all in coin, left over from a trip over a year ago. Since the Canadian dollar is worth more right now, I thought I'd exchange it. I went to First Bank and they told me they don't handle coins and I have to have an account with them to exchange bills. I have my account with a local credit union.

Do you know of a banking company that would exchange it for free, without needing an account, or will I just have to hold on to it untill the next time I happen to be at the border for the official currency exchange?

I've found a lot of local banks won't exchange foreign currency any longer because of the fluctuation of the dollar amount.

We have a state owned bank that still does check to see if your state has one.

The suggestion if you live near a major airport is a good one, but if you have to pay for parking and how far is it to get there will cut into what you'll get back.

We tend to throw our Canadian "change" into a jar and wait to use it when we go again.

It's hardly worth the trouble trying to exchange such a small dollar amount

why not just spend it a little at a time? most people dont even notice a canadian coin in their change. put an ad on craigslist. maybe someone wants them.

There are a few places that will buy your Canadian coins. Check out www,canadiancoinexchange.com. You have to send them thru the mail unless your a local. US funds show up in a few days.
their communication is very good on the status of your deposit.

Hope it helps you out
