The Democratic Party makes a greater effort to appeal to minorities and women than the Republican party. White men tend to be more conservative and thus vote Republican which is more conservative than the Democratic party which has moved more to the left of center in the last few years.

It has a lot to do with the dumbing down of American Society. I suspect that this will be lost here on YA but...
When the late Lee Atwater engineered the election of Ronnie Regan he (not Karl Rove) re-defined the GOP. He did in on several levels. First he aligned the party with the far religious right, not the evangelical movement (I am an evangelical) but with a movement which wished to keep its members ignorant in order to keep control (think of it as equal to the medieval Catholic Church). That he did this while running a known wife beater (and yes it is documented in Jane Wyman's divorce papers) Ronnie Regan is amazing. Once aligned with the religious right he then began a campaign to convince middle class white Americans (especially males) that they had more in common with rich people then they did with minorities of any economic class. Democrats then helped his caused by supporting Affirmative Action and backing such losers as Mike Dukakis.
The next move was to convince the American Middle Class that education was bad. Both the GOP and the religious right wanted to do this. They started to paint education as the bastion of the Liberal Elite either on the left or right coast. Education became a dirty word, those who were educated were seen by the growing party faithful as some how opposed to America. In the meanwhile of course the ultra rich of the GOP Continued to be educated at elite Universities on the left and right coast.
Once one generation passed the cycle became easier and easier to perpetuate
We are now into our second generation of Republicans for whom education is not a goal and continued ignorance is. The GOP also began a campaign that said that "Real" Americans work in industrial jobs, even though the industrial revolution has historically passed in America and the technological revolution is in full swing. Industrial job in general require less education. So the party picked up yet another cause, the loss of industrial jobs became yet another reason for the middle class to hate immigrants and other groups. The party keeps them from the real knowledge that if they further their education there are plenty of jobs around.
The party then creates non-issues, mostly involving gays a male hot button issues and sets them up as if they really matter. So instead of talking about the war, or education or the economy we talk about flag burning and gay marriage.
And so it goes on and on and until the middle class wakes up and sees how it has been duped by the Republican party the ignorance will continue and the far right will control our nation, even though the vast majority of us our in the middle

Not really. The lazy class is more likely to vote Democrat, wanting to continue their free ride at the taxpayers expense. But there are plenty of white liberals willing to throw their money down the socialist rat hole. Along with the money government steals from the rest of us.

Dems focus too much on race, from a white perspective they seem more rascist. Seattle is a fine example of how using race based systems leads to segregation and racial tension. Don't get me wrong though I hate all political parties. They are different brand names for different people but really they are the same company. Screw them all.

Because they have been portrayed as the villains in order to attract the votes of women and other races?
I am a white man, and I don't vote Democrat because I don't agree with their solutions to the issues we are facing. Then again, I don't necessarily vote Republican either. But it definitely has nothing to do with my or anybody else's race or gender.
