in the Northern Hemisphere, your long holidays are July and August. In the Southern Hemisphere, they are over December January. so, as well as planning for Christmas, everyone is also planning for holidays away at the coast or going to Europe to Ski. How many plans do you have to think about?.

Right now, here in Canada we are four days away (or five depending if you count today) from our Thanksgiving, which takes place on Monday the 8th.

I am too busy thinking of everything I have to get ready for THAT to care about Christmas at the moment (although I HAVE bought TWO gifts already to be given at Christmas, and have them hidden away).

So far I have successfully ducked the pumpkin cheesecake question. But I AM expected to produce 2 pumpkin pies, 1 deep dish apple pie, and 1 lemon meringue (from scratch). As well as a couple of hundred perogies. My daughters are doing the other things.

I have been thinking of having Christmas Eve at my house, I used to until 3 years ago then mom and I left town for Christmas.
Grandma's birthday was Christmas day 1907 so it was her 97th birthday and mom started really wanting to see her mom for Christmas it had been 40 years for her since the grand parents retired. So we canceled Christmas Eve after I had everything ready and I packed up the fudge and stuff and went to see Grandma. Moms sister lives there too and grandma had a broken leg so was in a nursing home.
It was a strange Christmas seeing Grandma and my aunt uncle and cousins for Christmas like we did in the 50s.
Since then the last two we did at mom's house because I hate cleaning and planning and mom volunteered. But mom will be 81 and I hate to put it on her, I will help but it is a Tuesday and I could get new carpet and clean then have 3 days to get the food ready.
I already have the gifts for everyone except mom and my boyfriend.

I'm going to start my Christmas shopping next month because I've got a lot of nieces and nephews to buy for. That way, I won't be hit with a huge chunk out of the budget in December. And I love to make counted cross stitch ornaments for package decorations, which means I have to start pretty soon if everyone's going to get one this year. My sister-in-law started that particular tradition, and I liked it so much that I try to do it for my family now, too. I love Christmas when it doesn't "sneak up" on me and leave me overworked and exhausted. That's why I try to get a head start on it every year!

Just yesterday my eldest daughter and I discussed at whose house Christmas would be celebrated for our family this year...it's mine, same as last year's :-) We do a draw a name type thing using an internet site called elfster.com...lotsa fun and takes the financial weight off of buying for everyone...Of course, the wee ones still get gifts from everyone and are not a part of the drawing.

This used to be a long holiday for me when my kids were wee....as they were out of school for almost two weeks...We'd go to Flordia to visit my parents. :-)

I'm still trying to figure out where August and September went! OK, so I have plans, to think about Christmas.

Sometimes I decorate, sometimes not. We don't have any little ones and keep spending to a minimum anymore. We'd rather spend the money on getting together and having a nice meal. We all live in different states and it's the one holiday we try to be together.

I already "hosted" a :"Christmas Party"! My sisters and my niece get together once a month at a restaurant. Bealls had a big jewelry sale (70% off plus 40%off). I bought them all a bunch of jewelry (mostly birthstones) and wrapped them in Christmas paper , mailed them..and they had a " Christmas Party" in July at the restaurant..and called me after they opened their presents. They had a blast..and I did too by phone. (And Bealls was happy too, of course!...I told them about it!) lol
(My dog,Sweetie, had just died and I was trying to keep "stayin' alive"..this helped me.)

I will do my best to just get a tree put up and several gifts purchased and then it will be late shopping for me. My family is very small now. I dotn do anything exotic for my holidays.

I can only deal with today at the moment . I take things as they come. If we make plans then we start getting stressed just thinking about it.
