Lol, I gained 100 lbs after pregnancy. But then again my thyroid fried and that might have something to do with it. I'm taking medication now and losing weight, though. Yay! Something like 1 in 4 women get post-pregnancy hypothyroidism. Add a little Depo Provera, Post Partum Depression, and you have a recipe for obesity. Women don't get fat "because of hormones" or "because that's just what happens when you have kids". They let themselves go, usually. Sometimes (about 25% of the time) it's a genuine hormonal problem. Still, there's no excuse for not taking care of it, in my opinion, and it IS a dangerous trend.

I wouldn't tell her she is getting 'fat', that is just mean. I am sure you are smart enough to tell her in uplifting manner. Or you are a fit person maybe you could HELP out.
Like waking up a bit early and taking long walks or jog if possible.
The most important thing is to pack lunches avoid eating outside.
Just try to create a health routine for the both of you that way she doesn't feel so alone.

If you are asking out of genuine concern (which I hope you are) - - look at the reasons she has gained weight.
Poor diet, too much fast food/prepared food, No time to exercise, No time to prepare a balanced meal, are all reasons people tend to gain weight.
Depression is also another cause. Some people eat to make themselves 'feel better'.
Has she recently had a baby? I see that as a cause for weight gain all the time with my friends! They spend so much time on baby that they never do anything for themselves like they used to.
The question you should be asking yourself is - - how can you help her be able to take control again?
If you can cook, make healthier meals. If you aren't good at cooking help her in another way so she has time to do it (clean the house, do the laundry).

Does she ever mention her weight gain? If so that is the perfect time to offer too help her. Suggest daily walks. Buy a low-cal cook book and cook for her a few days a week. Offer to handle kids or some of her chores so she can take a exercise class. Praise her progress. Try not to be negative.
Good Luck.

Maybe suggest that ya'll start working out together. Telling your wife she's fat will just be depressing - possibly causing her to get fatter. Be nice. She most likely already knows she's fat.

If you have kids it may be a good motivator for her to get healthy so she can be around to see all the milestones. You could take over the grocery shopping. Exercise with her. Get out and walk. It's free and easy. If you have kids get them on their bikes and they can ride while you walk. It will be setting a good example for the kids. Even if they complain, do it. They will like it eventually. Good luck.

Suggest you both go for walks in the evenings and maybe talk to each other as you go?

Blow yourself up to a 450-Lb blimp.

Then, look at her and say, "Hey! We match!"

Then she will get the message.
