I only know a few phrases in a few other languages. Do you mean if you speak a foreign language do you think it in your native language and then translate it into the second language? I knew a Russian guy once who spoke really good Englsih and he was really excited when he realized he was finally thinking in English and not thinking in Russian and translating before he spoke.

i can speak and read in 4 languages.one of them is french.i have a tendency to think in another language and talk or write in another language.it is funny at times as i could be thinking in french but say it in english instead...in every language ,no matter how you turn it...it just translates differently...i do get frustrated and angry and sometimes feel dumb but there are times when i feel proud of what i can do.not everybody can master in 4 languages and be PERFECT...i think it is just part and parcel of life...
being able to speak in a foreign language just makes you feel a little bit harder in getting your message across... ; )

My husband is Spanish, and when I try to talk to him in Spanish I feel completely dumb, because he never understands me....maybe it is my southern accent that gets in the way.

Well I was forced to learn German after I married my wife. After a while you don't feel anything because you get used to it.
