I have a problem with an abusive utilities provider in my state (TN). About 2 motnhs ago I received a bill for about 400% mora than what I usually pay. My bill went from $25-$35 to almost $200. I called the company and they said they were going to be doing an investigation. Around the same time for some reason the replaced the counter at my property. After about 2 months the result of the investigation said that the bill was in fact mine and that I had to pay it. I had a plumber go over the plumbing system to check for leaks and he did not find anything wrong. I do not have a swimming pool, I do not own an irrigation system, I do not even wash my car at my house. I just call this morning and they basically told me that I needed to pay my bill regardless or they were going to cut it off. Since they are the only provider for my area, can they do whatever they want? What are my options? i do not want to pay for water I did not use. Do I have a ny legal options? Thanks!

Call your States attorney general , they will be able to direct you to the state office that regulates utilities. Good luck.

they have you right where they want you. you do have to pay or they will indeed cut it off. pay the bill then try talking to your local legal aide and see if there is anything that you can do. sounds like the meter may have been faulty. and you are now being charged for water that you had used in the past and they just caught the error. ask to see an explanation of all the charges as to how your bill could be so high. i had a water company do me that way years ago before i moved to where i now have well water. good luck.
