"The parents of a 13-year-old Louisville girl, whose feet were severed on an amusement park ride, say her recovery remains slow.

Three months ago, WBKO told you about Kaitlyn Lasitter who lost both feet when a cable snapped on a ride at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom.

In an e-mail, her mother Monique Lassiter, said Kaitlyn will suffer through a hard recovery for a long time.

She says her daughter is sick from the medications and her weight has dropped to under 100 pounds.

After the accident, doctors were able to reattach her right foot, but her left leg had to be amputated just below her knee.

The family sued Kentucky Kingdom in July, claiming the park failed to maintain the Superman Tower of Power and ensure riders' safety."

Truly a sad situation. Would any of you continue to ride a ride of this nature? Have you been scared off? What do you think about park safety requirements? Do you feel they are being met?

I was at this same park on this same ride about 2 months before her mishap that she had on this ride. I am scared to death now to think that it could have been me. But in life, if you are scared of things that could happen to you, then you would be scared of everything in the world. For example, people get killed in car crashes all the time, but thinking about that all the time and about being killed in the car, would only make you crazy and not be able to go anywhere. Same goes for boats, boats sink and airplanes crash, but sometimes in life its better to put that in the back of your mind and know there is a chance, but just to go on and hope and pray it doesnt happen to you! Like this carnival ride, I probably won't jump back on simply for the fact I wasn't even impressed with Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom and I don't think I will be back there, hence not riding the ride ever again.

The person above me stated just how I feel. Amusement parks and rides are an all-time hobby for me, plus I have worked in one for several years so I am comfortable with the safety requirements and how they are met. I am also comfortable with knowing that no matter how stringent those requirements are, you can't stop tragic things from happening.

It's something amusement park operators are always prepared for. For all we know, the cable in question didn't start to disintegrate until after inspections had been performed on it; perhaps only in the hours after the ride opened that day. I can't tell you how many times I've dealt with hearing a strange noise on the ride I was operating after my safety check and the ride had opened, only to shut it down and find that something had come loose or something in the time that it had been open. Only the park officials know for sure if something was amiss, and we may never find out for sure.

I wish Kaitlyn and her family well, and keep them in my prayers. Thanks also for posting this update.
