if an employee has been working for me for 8 years, but the business will be closing down, does anyone know how much i have to pay him ?

The last periods pay. Any holiday pay. Redundancy which is 1, 1/2, 2 weeks pay (depending on their age) for every year of service up to a maximum of 8 weeks pay in total. Check this last it might have changed in the last 3 years.

You're under legal contract to pay employees for time worked. I'm not sure how accrued vacation days rate when a business is closing, but the employees can't be considered as 'working for free'. They can take you to court to recoup unpaid wages, and you'd be left paying court costs.

I believe it's the regular wage that you have been paying him since he's been working for you. When a restuarant in my city closed down, all of the employees were paid for the week they worked before the restaurant closed up until their last day of work.
