Platforms are kind of like wedges but higher at the toe and the heel area. If you increase the height of wedges then the incline of your tow to heel will increase also but with platforms, you can increase the height but not the incline of you foot. Example... You can have platforms that has a two inch incline but 5 inches off the ground at the toe area and 7inches at the heel area. Where as in wedges, if you have a 2 inch incline, then you're maybe barely or half an inch off the ground at the toe and 2 inches or so off the ground at the heel area. If you want your heel to be 7 inches off the ground, you'd have a very steep incline for your foot.
