he is either constipated or his swim bladder is going. are there any other signs of sickness, like protruing scales (pine cone effect?) what i would do is put a half slice of a pea in there to see if he eats it. if it is constipation, the pea will clean him out.

Ive had a couple of fish like that it could be constipated or worse dropsy. the signs of dropsy are pine cone effect , they have gone off their food, they become a lot slower. I have just lost a fish to dropsy and it is usually fatal. keep a close eye on it, to treat it you will need antibiotics. gud luk and hope this helps

In order for anyone to give you a semi-accurate answer, you're going to have to provide some more information for us to go on. Like someone above asked, are the scales "pine coned", is the fish eating, is he floating, is he sinking, any outward signs of any other illness (salt looking granules which can indicate "Ich", etc. If you could provide us with this information it will help a lot in what it may or may not be going on.

Good luck, and I'll check back to see if you've amended, or you can e-mail me directly if you'd prefer.

Also, here is a great website to check out which may help, and also a website in regard to diseases: http://bcaquatics.com/default.aspx and http://www.aquariumcorner.com/disease.htm

Lastly, remember that poor water conditions often are the underlying cause of disease. Making sure to properly maintain his tank can do wonders for his health. You do not mention how he is housed, so adding that may help too. If he's in a "bowl", it's important that you perform weekly water changes and add the proper water conditioner when replacing the water. However, if it is swim bladder, there can be several reasons why it's occurred, which is explained in the website mentioned above.

Good luck!!! ;o)

Some males puff when they get angry. They also help the female make a bubble nest for babies. I could just joke that he has gas but he might also have a serious condition. Call your local pet store who sells aquarium fish to make sure.
