The question basically is, would you still buy a Ferrari or an equally expensive car, if nobody ever saw you driving in it? If you lived in an area where the population was extremely small, and basically you never saw people throughout the day, would you still buy and ultra-luxury item, if no one ever saw you in it? Is buying a 200K dollar car about you wanting to drive it, or wanting to be SEEN driving it?

Clearly paying 200K for your wheels is about more than simple transportation.

A Ferrari isn't just a car, it's a form of foreplay. It's a modern variation of standing over a dead Mammoth and announcing that 'you are the man'.

And like any form foreplay, it's use should be based on it's effectiveness.

Since the flash of a Ferrari is specifically designed to titillate Western women, it would probably be wasted on the Tibetan babes.

Still, nothing blows off the stress of goat herding like a ripping off a few 150mph laps in your Ferrari.

NOTE: To the ladies who don't see the reason to own a Ferrari... You ARE the reason guys want to own a Ferrari.

NOTE2: If you are young, sexy and rich enough to own a Ferrari, WTF are you doing in Tibet.

For some people it is both wanting to be seen driving it and enjoying the machine that they have power over. For other it may be one or the other, but I think if anyone is driving that car, there is something deep inside that thinks 'I look hot.'

I wouldn't. I don't understand the need for something like that. I know it is a nice car, but I don't feel the need for speed or to spend an absurd amount of money on a car. I'm sure it's nice and all, but nah. I would rather be comfortable and have a nice house.

I'm not interested in buying an ultra-luxury car, ever. Would I be interested in buying some other form of ultra-luxury item? Yes, but not to show off. I really don't care what people think of it, what matters is how I feel about it.

if i lived in such a remote area that no one sees me that its very likely i am a poor person, so i cannot buy a ferrari bu suppose money isnt a lot of problem, then obviously one of the reasons for buying a ferrari, namely social prestige will be missing. but still it may be useful for riding as well as the thill it will giv me. so in sum total i will buy a ferrari.

even if i had all the money in the world and lived anywhere i like, my answer is no.
but, isn't this true of all products labeled "luxury brands", at least to a certain extent? at least for those products which, just by looking at it from a distance you can identify the brand and hence how much it costs?

I'd buy a one-way ticket to a less remote area

no, since it would serve no practical use....if it's remote then most likely the roads [if there are any!] would be in a mess and the car would be destroyed in a short time anyway...a jeep might be more useful...

I would not buy one anywhere.......I do not need to show off. It is something you outgrow as you get older.
