door closer is right, or surfaced mounted door closer if it is exposed. common brands- lcn, norton, global, yale.
you can get them in sizes also, ie. 36" door interior or 36" door exterior will be stonger due to heavier door and wind conditions. if looking for heavy duty, for a commercial bldg a glass co. will help if you want one for a hollow wood door at home diy store will have those

I'm going to play a hunch and say that you are talking about the elbow shaped thing on a screen/storm door. I've heard them call door closers, pneumatic door closers and door checks. You should be able to get a replacement at your local home center. If it is a screen/storm door made by the Forever company or someone similar, then you should go back to them because these doors are heavier than a standard door and a standard door check may not work properly.

They are just called "Door Closers" and there are dozens of them.
I would suggest hold open model so that if you are moving in and out frequently you don't need to constantly open them.
They just lock into place at about 95 degrees, and just need a nudge to swing closed.
