You walk into a room and there are two doors.
You open Door #1 and you see meadows and Bambi and butterflies and magnificently colored wildflowers and hummingbirds flitting about....
Then, you open Door #2 and you see blood and screams and mayhem and wild chaotic sex and knifings and guns shooting off and fistfights and people bent over vomiting....
I will guarantee you MORE people will drift over to Door #2 and stand there endlessly.
rush appeals to the base nature of undeveloped human beings.

Isn't it amazing how much arrogance there is in the answers you have received so far? The self-evident truth is that the vast majority of Americans are actually conservative whether they define themselves that way or not. On the other hand, very few Americans are actually liberal even if they think they are. How do I know?
When was the last time a self-proclaimed liberal ran against a self-proclaimed conservative? That would be when Reagan ran against Carter and then against Mondale. These were clearly defined philosophy based elections. Reagan won in the most lopsided landslide ever in the history of America. The reelection results were even higher than the original election.
Now look at today's candidates in both parties. Are any of them calling themselves liberal? No, none are. In fact the most liberal Democrats are now calling themselves "progressives" and avoiding the liberal label at all costs. On the other hand, the Republican candidates are proclaiming that they are conservative even if they are not. It does not take much to figure out why.
Now we turn our attention to talk radio. Most people who care about political issues listen to talk radio. Most people who listen to talk radio listen to Rush Limbaugh and other conservative hosts. When liberals host talk shows, very few people tune in. Why? Well, radio listeners are voting with their tuners. They prefer to hear what conservatives have to say.
Personally, I believe the military should be able to listen to whatever they want to on Armed Forces Radio. Why doesn't someone ask them? Dont' they deserve that much?

For the same reason "The Weekly World News" is the 4th most popular weekly newspaper in the WORLD.
Wasn't it P.T. Barnum who said, "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people"?
By the way, "AFN" Armed Forces Network, which includes radio AND commercial-free television in Europe and other foreign countries, is like "Pravda" in the old Soviet Union. "Everyone HAD it, no one used it". I am an Army veteran who was stationed for 2 years in Wurzburg, Bavaria and, TV and radio are ALL about AFN unless you wanted to listen to German radio (oompah music and songs from 30 years ago) or German TV, which was just as depressing and dark as it sounds.
Saying Rush has an audience of 1 million AFN users is like "Mailbox of Values" saying they have 200 million subscribers, just because that's who they send their junk mail out ot every week.

If Rush has been #a million for two decades (i'm not disputing the reality, I merely have not troubled to look into it) i think of it probable has to do with the reality that human beings, a minimum of American communicate radio listeners, are idiots. consistent with probability this is a mirrored image of our awful public coaching device. i comprehend, enable's provide public coaching much less of our tax funds. that could desire to remedy the subject. on a similar time as we are at it, enable's get rid of federal oil subsidies. which will actual make Exxon extra effective. enable's additionally decrease investment for our troops in Iraq, the branch of protection and protection rigidity contractors. fifty six billion funds a 365 days is peanuts whilst in comparison with the billion funds of tax funds spent in Iraq. we would get important fee reductions there.

Because he's a damned good entertainer.
Hell, Johnny Carson was good too, along with Jackie Gleason.
I used to be a Rush Ditto-Head and then started looking into what he was saying. I quickly found out the guy was making stuff up on the fly, telling half truths to outright lying.
My advice to you, get your head out of the radio and start thinking for yourself. You'll regain you common sense, you'll stop hating, your realize the one size fits all personal responsibility crap is a basic communist principle, your blood pressure will go down and you'll be happier for it.
That goes for the left and right.....both are just as guilty.
The reasons to ignore the radio tabloid trash is many, but one thing that stands out more then anything, is it really solves nothing and just produces more divisiveness while taking our eyes of the 8 ball by arguing about things that do not affect most of us, while ignoring our future.
Peace

Because the left are generally free thinkers and don't need our heads filled with propagnda to go about our daily lives. Rush is like a spiggot of puke meant to fill the tiny vacuous heads of millions of sheeple er listeners.

"cume estimates . . . rounded, based on TALKER magazine analysis . . . of a sampling based on other reliable indicators"
Persistence.
If we call him a Persistent pill popper, alliteration.
I suppose he lets callers talk, and that might have defined the genre. Who did it before him?
and he barely edges out Sean Hannity.
Paul Harvey apparently is not talk.

I will continue to support Rush Limbaugh.
