Since you omitted the WHAT... of what IT is; a snake might not help at all. NOR might toxic chemicals. The THING might be important in getting a better answer. For example a toothbrush might cause more problems than a face cloth.

Certainly too; the landlord "should" be familiar with all manner of maintenance and procedures or have people on call who are.

Also pulling the toilet might have to happen.

You don't state if the THING is still visible; or if you've flushed since? have to attempted putting your hand in as far as you can?

The construction of the inside of a toilet is not strictly condusive to wire coat hanger DIY efforts.

That depends, what did you drop in there? Soap? A towel? After calling a plumber out to our house at 8pm once, he snaked it, but told us to invest in a really really good plunger and 9 times out of 10 that would do the job.

Its either stuck in the internal trap of the toilet or in the main drain you have to pull the toilet and take it out from the bottom

When this happened to me I put on rubber gloves and fetched out the necklace that had dropped. Then I washed the necklace and my gloves and hands thoroughly!
Be thankful it wasn't in a disgustingly dirty hole in the ground!

Just be honest with your landlord stuff happens, she may send someone to help you out or have an auger so you can try to retrieve the object.

You're just making simple things complicated. First, don't flush it down. Just pick it up and just wash your hands.

Before any right answer can be given, we have to know what it is that you have dropped?
