SHould I recharge when there are one or two bars of battery left?

Or when the battery is about to expire?

Or at some other stage?

you don't need to wait to charge lithium batteries. that was earlier when cell phones used to have the other kind several years ago. now all phones have lithium batteries. with these no periodic discharge is needed; there is no memory hence you can charge your battery every day if you want, that way you'll keep it charged to the fullest every day without having to worry to run out of charge. it's actually recommended that you do this instead of letting it get fully discharged.

"the battery prefers a partial rather than a full discharge. frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible. instead, charge the battery more often or use a larger battery. there is no concern of memory when applying unscheduled charges." (www.batteryuniversity.com)

i charge it every night even though it's usually 2 or 3 bars sometimes 4; regardless i'm used to do it like this and never had a problem with the batteries of any of my cell phones. the life of your battery won't depend on how often you charge it.

does this help?

Most cell phones use Lithium Ion batteries and it does not matter when you recharge.

You are suppose to charge it once your battery is completly dead-That way itll charge fully as your phone wont be on!However if you are like me you will probably charge it when its on its last bar and even have phone switched on at time too so dont miss out on any texts or phone calls.

Let it go completely flat before you charge it. When the battery gets low on mine I play games till the battery dies, then charge it.

a Mobile phone battery has a memory if you recharge it when it has power it will think it has none at that level & go flat(even if it has)
allways let it go flat before recharging it

Yes. Better not to wait until the last minute and be stuck without "juice". I've done this all the time without any harm done.
