Why is it that you usually get on better with grandparents than with parents?

I can't stand my mum, but adored my Grandfather.

Because your grand parents have already been hated by your parents. You now have a common enemy.

Plus, grand parents spoil rather than raise.

Its because grandparents do not have the day to day job of feeding you, clothing you, paying for school things, cleaning your laundry and picking up after you. They never say no and they spoil you and shower you with unconditional love, that's thier job.

Parents on the other hand, are trying to raise you into a responsible adult, which is not easy to do because they have the unpleasant task of saying "no" and punishments when you are misbehaving and picking up your shoes AGAIN after they told you a billion times to do so. Going to the school for parants night and functions, cleaning up your vomit and cooking for you when you are sick and taking you to whatever extra activities day to day issues that you have. Thats a lot to do for someone who can't stand you. (smile)

I know how you feel and its normal, when you become a mom yourself, you will see your mum with your child and wonder "Who is this woman?" My mom lets my daughter jump on her bed, raid her closet and make up and eat ice cream in bed at 1 in the morning. She even talks back to my mother and my mom just smiles and kisses her and gives her whatever she wants. Me? if I came 10 feet within her closet door as a child, I was in a world of trouble. You'll see it too someday. Its normal to feel that way about your mum/grandparents. Everyone does at some point. :-)

I hated my mother at a certain age too but now and for the past 10 years or so we have become closer and closer and more like friends. Just finished a shop and coffee spree with her in fact. Having said that my granny is 91 and so cool and non judgemental that we all love her. My daughter wants to go and live with my mother cause she prefers her to me. Grandparents can afford to chill out a bit because they dont have these children 24/7. My mother lets my 2 away with things she would never have allowed when I was small!

Because we are considerably richer than your parents and love to spoil you. We couldnt afford to spoil our own kids so are now making the most of spoiling theirs! Also we are retired have loads of time and money and love to give you.
We are also more chilled and understanding, having been through a lot of life to get here. Now you know!

because the grandparents have the easy job. They just turn up, buy you presents and are very nice. As soon as you do something wrong it is then up to your parents to sort you out so it always appears that your parents are the bad guys

because parents have the responsibility of being a parent to you and disciplining you. grandparents have no such responsibility and can be a friend to you instead of having to keep you walking a straight and narrow path. to a parent, you're something to be molded into a fine human specimen. to a grandparent, you're a cute little play toy. hope this helps.

Parents are busy trying to "raise u right" so they have to be the bad guys at times..

Grandparents.. being a lil removed, can be more fun, more liberal, more "friendly".
then of course they might want some payback against your parents so they spoil u rotten

grandparents normally let the grandkids do whatever they want.. It is the grandparents job to spoil the kids
