No, it is an environmental thing, take away the media and all the peer pressure in the world then women would prefer to rub hippo sh*t in their faces than foundation.

Is it beauty for health that a particular woman seeks or is it to attract men? Not all good looking charming or wealthy men are worthy of attracting and just because she is gorgeous and attracts them equals a happy life. Hence all the tabloid fighting and divorces and big headlines of famous people and their divorces so they can cheat on a beautiful woman to mess around with a dog faced troll who never shaves her legs. If a women looks for a decent character in a man so he is trustworthy enstead of trying to dazzle him with her stunning good looks she might find real happiness if it is pampering herself to attract a relationship. If she likes to look at the mirror alot than her vaniety is her own punishment. In 20 or 30 years she will figure out why.

I agree that it depends on the people that the girl lets influence her. We dont' need all of that stuff. I don't even get all of that stuff. I dress casually and what fits me and I still think I'm beautiful. Most women are caught up in media hype and wanna be Beyoncé and Ciara. They shop and wear makeup every single day and it ruins their skin. I think we are naturally beautiful, not naturally vain.

I think it has more to do with insecurity than vanity. That's why it's so important to have so much approval from everyone and everywhere...even from themselves. That's why they shop so often. It's like giving themselves "gifts" for being a good girl or something. When their husbands work hard and are not giving them the attention they crave, they go out and spend tons of money shopping and buying everything in sight to make up for the lack of attention from him.

Vain, yes, just like how you're all self-centered, materialistic and superficial. Most women are inherent attention seekers, hence why they need to look more 'youthful' (men are attracted to youthfulness). This also explains the reason why 90% of the market aimed at women focuses on 'me, me, me' - a purely self-centered thing.

I am not sure that we are vain but we sure do like looking good and feeling good. I cannot see my husband going to get a pedicure, but I sure do like to get pedicures. I use moisturizer so I do not wrinkle but I cannot see my husband doing that either. We are definitely more high maintenance than men. I have 3 times as many shoes as my husband and son put together.

this question is not simple. naturally, i would say we are not born vain. but even the term vain has to be properly defined. i woul say that its not necessary to maintain our beauty as we age, and that its not natural to do so. HOWEVER...
first of all they say females are from venus and men are from mars. this is probably because venus is the god of love, and mars is the god of war. this shows that females are more emotional, whereas men are usually more... well... logical in that sense. we follow our emotion. and as time passes we learn more about ourselves, and start to miss the times we use to have. we maintain our beauty not because its natural, but because we dont want to lose anything. physical impressions are important, and cannot be reverted once changed. it can only be prevented. but due to culture and history, its natural that we do all that.
in conclusion, its not that we need it, but that rather we want it, because we want something more..

I don´t know, :)
but they are good consumers
(e.g. perfume, bric a brac, pillefit, nutzloses Zeug, make up, fancy dresses, diet products, woman journals with "advices" like: how to get a bank clerk for marriage, useless things)
In the world of birds the males are the vain ones.

it really depends on the person and its very narrow minded (cough*some above people*cough) to dump everyone in the same group. ther are alot of different women out there and im sure not all of them are vain. for a start i know i'm not.
and shopping is just fun, it has nothing to do with vanity because not everyone shops for makeup and perfume etc, the majority of my shopping items being music cd's and trinkets.
