I am flying home to Canada to see my family with their new 6 wk old grand daughter. Problem is that she is due her 8 week injections when she is away. My health visitor says that she must have them done. I havent lived at home for 15 yrs adn havent got a health plan ect, so will any clinic take her? She will obviously have insurance, so will that cov er her? I am going to call my old family doc , but they are 5 hrs behind and it isnt open yet so thought I would ask for everyones view on this. Thanks in advance!

Babies first injections can be given from 6 weeks once they have had their 6 week development check with doctor. As long as the baby meets all the criteria during the check & is signed off for immunisations, you shouldn't have to wait until 8 weeks. A lot of doctors combine the 6 week baby check with the mothers 8 week postnatal check to save time so if you ring and explain, Im sure they will try & fit your bundle of joy in sooner... then you can just be seen when you return.

I would get them done in the UK as every country has different immunisations so it may be different in Canada.

My daugther did not get her "8 week" immunizations until she was 11 weeks old, that is just the way my pediatricians office scheduled the appointment (they are very busy) and she is fine and they told me that she did not have to have them at exactly 8 weeks of age. So waiting until you get back is fine, they may just be concerned that the baby could catch something while traveling because the baby is so small, that is why the want the shots before the baby leaves. Just keep the baby away from people (stangers and sick people) and bundled tight and out of cold air...all of that germy circulated air on planes could get the little one sick.

You don't say how long you are going to be away, but if it's just a couple or three weeks I'd say don't worry about it. I missed a few injections because they were changing the schedule when my baby was born so I wasn't clear on when she was supposed to get what, but we got caught up eventually and you will too.

How long wil you be away for? I cannot understand why the injections cant wait until you come home, maybe its just too long since my kids were babies and i cant remember, but i thought the injections couold wait a little while. Im pretty sure one of my sons had to wait for some of his as he was full of cold and the doctor wouldnt do them until he was better.

Wow! Flying to Canada with a 6 week old baby! You're very brave! I admire you!

Sorry to hear about your Dad. I think you're doing the right thing - I just wanted to say that I think you're very brave!

Your family will love meeting the new baby.

I don't know where your family lives in Canada, but in Quebec, all you have to do is make an appt at a CLSC. I was not required to have a provincial health card, so you may be able to have it done, even though you no longer reside in Canada.

You dont say where you are now. If Canada is your destination I would think you would be able to get the shots done there but as for being covered maybe not. You may have to pay.
