Can anyone give me some advise with fleas.
I have just moved to a new apt less then a week ago...after i moved in the landlord decided to tell me that there use to be a flea problem but that they have changed the carpet and sprayed 2 times. Basically that everyone was fine now.

Anyway all 3 of my animals now have fleas and IM PISSED! Im going to buy flea medication today but is this even possible to still have fleas in the house with everything that has been done. (spraying, and carpet changing)
Im so descusted! I've never had a flea!

I think I'd ask him to flea bomb the house, not just spray. Make sure your animals are NOT in the house when he does it, however, and that he follows the instructions exactly. Either that, or insist that he have a professional come in and take care of the problem. Use a product such as Frontline on your pets, also.

I've dealt with this before having grown up as a navy brat with pets of my own and having to move alot. The only real option at this point is a 3-step process: 1) flea-bomb the apartment, 2) thoroughly bathe your pets, and 3) have the carpets steam cleaned to extract any pests and eggs that got by the bombs.

There is also the possibility that the land the complex sits on is just simply flea-infested, in that case all you can really do is take the above precautions PLUS bathe your pets at least 2x / month as a preventative measure.

Also, my brother is a professional carpet cleaner and he regularly deals with this problem. He recommends that you ask the carpet cleaner you hire if they use a flea and tick treatment such as "BanEx" (sp?) on the carpets. He also reminded me that the fleas may also be in your furniture by now.... Sorry for the grim news.

***btw - spraying is only a surface treatment - the bomb fumes will seep into the wall cavities to try to get at hidden nests.

Buy the best bombs you can afford and follow the directions PRECISELY - the cheap ones are crap.

Go to the vets and get Revolution. It is the best one around. What it does it actually helps to clear out the house and area that your pets are in. It also prevents alot more than just flea's. Vaccum once a day and change the bag once you have finished vaccuming. Get a household spray from the vets office (it works better than any over the counter at a pet store) Once the Revolution has been on for 48 hours give your animals a bath in a flea shampoo. And with in one week the problem should be solved. Just keep the Revolution on your animals (one dose per month) while you are living in that apt. I would also let your landlord know - he should foot the bill for the meds. Good luck.

It's surprising to still have fleas in the house if the carpets are changed - but then maybe not if you've got untreated animals in the house!

Yes, get some flea treatment for your pets. From a vets, not a pet store - store-bought treatments don't work and are often dangerous. Get something like Frontline.

The apartment needs to be fumigated. That is the only way to get rid of them. You tell your landlord you want the place fumigated or you are going to a lawyer. It is his responsibility, and trust me, if he doesn't, you have a good case against him. Even if you don't know of a lawyer, you can find one, and the word lawyer will scare him a bit into fixing the problem. Be firm with him!!!!!!
