Why is bringing the Taliban into the Afghanistan government "respecting the right of a sovereign country to self-determination" ?

typical media grab:
"Hamid Karzai, the president of Afghanistan, wants to bring the Taliban into the government, so (Des) Browne's position is not totally unreasonable. It's respecting the right of a sovereign country to self-determination"

typical media grab:
"It makes sense to give the Taliban an official platform for expression".

Allowing people to speak openly is usually the best possible way to discredit their policies and beliefs. When people hear how looney their ideas are they turn away.

You do have some points, but, and there always is, whether you like it or not (and I`m not condoning terror of any sort) it would be for the same reason that a nations government would want to train the Taliban for its own end (back in the 80s`) To me not inviting everyone round the table is reminiscent of the Right Rev Ian Paisley and David Trimble who insisted they would not be in the same building as Gerry Adams and sin fien. That thatcher lady, refused to accept Bobby Sands as an MP even though he won his seat in a fair and democratic election. This added to the troubles and indeed had such an impact that grown men and women not only prevented young innocent children from going to school (which is their basic human right) but terrified them in process. Adults spitting on children, throwing urine over them, calling the dirty ********* scum and of course throwing fireworks at them. You may well ask were this is going, and ask you may, point being if you do not include these people in any meaningful peace solution then you are not a broker for peace (irrespective of who they might be) for as long as they are refused any part in the solution, then they will always be willing to demoralize Mame and murder the innocent and it is therefor better to become your enemies best Friend, that way you know exactly what they are up to, if you get my drift?
