Hi, I understand that deli meat should be avoided, or heated up thoroughly when you are pregnant. But does Deli meat include pre-packed sandwhiches such as Chicken / Ham sandwiches from boots? Sorry if this sounds silly, but I just don't know the answer.

I stayed away from deli meat totally. The only pre-packaged meat I bought when pregnant was pre-sliced ham but it was vacume sealed in the chilled section at the supermarket. I didn't even have subway. If you are in doubt - leave it out! Better to be safe than sorry.

omg have you ever had heated deli meat? its disgusting, and its completly unneccassary. My Dr assured me that eating deli meats a few times a week would not posse a problem, its a theory that woman can contract bacterial infects, I personally feel you have more of a chance becoming ill from food by other means (eating out at restaurants...etc) Chicken is perfectly safe, and actually a great source of protein.

I think the whole deli meat panic is overrated. I've had 2 beautiful healthy babies, and another one due in 2weeks, and have never avoided deli meats. I actually crave it while pregnant. I wouldn't wind yourself up too much about it.

I would imagine that pre-packed sandwiches from Boots are 99.999% safe - but if I was you, I'd stick to nice home made sarnies - fresh, 100%safe, no preservatives or colouring. To help you decide, just read the list of ingredients on a pack of ready made sandwiches! Good luck with the pregnancy!

When pregnant it is safest to avoid all foods from the fresh chilled counter.
Fresh chilled food is prone to contamination, and one has to rely on the good practises of the supplier, store, store staff, chiller cabinet cleaners, et al to be sure that the food is as represented.
During pregnancy, I feel, this is too great a risk.
Better to avoid, and by doing so, avoid tragic circumstances.
Hey, good luck!

It sounds very odd, why on earth to you have to change any dietary habits because you're pregnant?
If the deli meat you're used to buying is prepared and sold within the guidelines that govern the product - eat the food you normally would!

sandwiches from boots??? i don't know what that is... you must not be american but anything that is pre-packaged is likely to have the potential for lysteria so yes, it should be heated until it steams as well.
