u need to use rawlplug that are called butterflies they r stright but when they are put inthe wall and you screw the screw in the rawlplug opens wings and they grip behind the plasterboard giving a firmer hold you can get these in metal or plastic or can be known as cavity anchors local hardware shop will stock these

It sounds like you have plaster board right over concrete walls if there is not enough space between the two. One alternative would be to use spring rods inside the window itself. It does limit the type of curtains you can hang and maybe the look you want to achieve.

I used a fitting that looks like a big fat screw which you screw into the plasterboard. You then screw into that screw if you see what I mean. Worked so far.

some things just arnt meant to be,
If the plasterboard fixings dont work and you have tried REALLY long screws and rawplugs into the blockwork behind, give up before you make a massive hole/mess out of the plaster

Buy hollow wall plugs from B+Q, they are a lot wider so that they can get a much better grip on the wall.

Use a wooden baton attached to the wall first, using no more nails , when that has dried you attach the curtain pole to this wooden baton.

if you can screw the batten to the stud work behind the plasterboard .that way the stud work is taking the weight of the curtains and pole and not the plasterboard
