You only bought the PC hardware and the software. Now, if you want internet, you also need to buy the service subscription. You could inquire from your Cable TV provider or from your phone company.
BUT before you spend anything more, think again if you would just be wasting more money. It might be better to return that laptop then spend your money for something else rather than be miserable with computers.

Whenever you buy any kind of a computer, it does not come with internet provided, like if you plug it in and it will connect. You will have to research who your local provider for internet is. Put it simply if you live way out in the country and the location to where you live does not support broadband internet, your only options are either satelite or dialup. You will have to contact an Internet Service Provider (ISP) and they will list what packages they provide and will help you step by step. The internet connection will cost you additional money, most of the time it is charged as a monthly fee. If it is broadband internet expect to pay around $20-$55. This is the best kind of internet you can get, excluding the T1s+ which are too expensive, and not really needed for home use. Another note is cable or DSL are considered broadband. Meaning you are connected all the time, you can enjoy surfing the web and talking on the phone at the same time. If you choose the dialup route, which requires the use of a modem, this is however the slowest. For dialup expect to pay anywhere from $7-$30 for the service. Most computers today have modems that are 56K. Another note for dialup is that it uses your phoneline and that you cannot surf the web and talk on the phone at the same time.
-If you want the cheapest just for surfing the web then go for dialup.
-If you want the faster websurfing and downloading then get broadband.
If you already have a cable provider, you can always ask to see if your cable provider has any internet packages.
So the decision is up to you whether you think you have wasted money or just have been misinformed.

OK, First - Do you have a Broadband Connection? You will need this for your computer to access the internet. You will need to contact a ISP (Internet Service Provider) in your area who can provide this, Examples :- Virgin Media, AOL, BT (IN UK ) E.t.c. They will provide the connections needed (bit like a phone line) and the leads and hardware and a CD for your laptop to connect. They will provide you with instructions on how to put the leads into your computer (or how to set up wireless internet if your laptop supports it) and how to install the software from the CD they will provide you. Hope this helps!!

You need to subscribe to broadband, the company you register with is your ISP. They will give you login details to connect.
