depends if they looked 'loony' or not, we got a mental hospital near where I live, the inmates aren't meant to go out, but they do, I try to avoid them..................

If somebody is being polite on a bus and trying to make conversation I would entertain that. I have no problem with that. In fact if I am sitting next to someone on a bus / train I try and be polite and say hi at least, most of the time it develops into a conversation.

It depends on the person and topic of conversation if it was a conversation about the weather with an old lady then I'd join in if it was a conversation about randomness from a obvious nut job or nasty/aggressive person I'd move seat or get off the bus.

unfortunatley i was brought up with great manners so if someone talks to me then i talk back, i also smile at everyone.......... usually most people are very intresting and the older generation just want conversations because they are going home to an empty house. .

I was going to a hospital appointment the other day and this old woman was totally in the wrong part of the hospital. everyone in the lift (about 20 people) just gave her directions, which were long, so i told her i would take her there, as i had plenty of time. she told me her life story on the way and it was amazing!!!!

Im shy as well, but talking to people will build up your confidence,

I usually observe people's movements or how they talk before I speak to them, so it depends on what I listed below:
If a man spoke to me on the bus, I would ignore him because I don't want him thinking that I am even remotely interested in him because I am married. If it was a woman, it depends on how she looks, and I'd speak to her if she was in a skirt or girly jeans because I'm open to making new friends but if she was wearing baggy pants and dressed like a man, I wouldn't talk to her because she's probably a lesbian (and I don't swing that way), so I'd treat her like a man.

I'd answer them, absolutely. 99 times out of 100, people are friendly & worth talking to. The problem for me is stopping the conversation, the 100th time, the one when they turn out to be a nuisance. I'm not good at being forceful.

if someone spoke to me that looked like a decent person , i would definately not ignore them, that would be rude....i talk to people quite a lot to pass the time. it,s a shame that society is going down the pan and that pople won,t even talk to each other anymore ( i would ignore a drunk or a junkie though obviously)

If its someone that looks clean, not up to trouble, then yes, I would speak to him, but just answer like what the time is or something small. If he/she asks something like to start a conversation, give an excuse.

Yes of course I would. I'd feel very ignorant if I didn't unless it was a group of lads being crude - then they'd get ignored or told where to go!

When I ride the bus I'm either reading a book or listening to my iPod so people usually don't bother you much. If its a really crazy, wacked out person, I turn my iPod up REAL loud.

Which do you want answered - the do you ignore them bit or the would you speak to them bit - because it would be no and yes, but interestingly they would both mean the same thing. Think about it - carefully ! ! !
