Yes, for 26 yrs. My therapist said she was surprised I survived it. It was a very long nightmare. I am so glad I am out of it. I just wish I had done it years before. I ended up being too old by the time it was over to do much with my life. I thought at the time that that was just the way things were in a relationship and that it was normal. I was stupid. I am not saying your relationship is as bad as mine was. My ex was also totally controlling too. Just think about it and follow your instincts. They will guide you through. That is what I didn't do was listen to my instincts. If I had of I would of gotten out a lot sooner. Actually I tried to back out of marrying him, but he talked me into it. Wish I had of listened to my feelings then. Hope things work out for you.

Of course.

I think most people with any real relationship experience have seen this. Sometimes the other person's intentions are inncocent, sometimes they're not. Other times, perhaps your own perception is misguided for a variety of different reasons. It's just another example of the importance of communication in the relationship. The key is to address these issues in a non-confrontational way the minute you notice them. And remember, sometimes you can't always change the world over night. It's ok if change takes time over a progression of many talks with your partner. Just as long as the communication stays open and true... you can always readjust to stay on the right path... no matter what that path is (staying together or saying goodbye).
