Call Sony's tech support, tell them that your Laptop is missing drivers. If they can't guide you to a location to download those drivers, then demand they send you a CD with your missing drivers and get them to you within a 1 week period. If the call center supervisor can't promise that much, then take the laptop back to where you bought it and get something that isn't a Sony, like a Lenovo ThinkPad, Toshiba Qosmio, Apple MacBook/MacBook Pro, or Fujitsu Lifebook.

(VAIO laptops are over-priced for what they are on the inside anyway, and except for the fact that some recent models look pretty spiffy, I couldn't recommend them to anyone.)

I assume it's a used PC that didn't come with the Recovery disk and the former owner can't supply the disk.

Assuming that "PCG-7A1M" is what is printed on the label on the underside of your Vaio, look for another number elsewhere.

Did it come with a Manual, for example?

Is there another sticker?

You may have to look it up in a different country, like Brazil.

Try http://www.crucial.com/

Use their "Memory Advisor Tool" to identify your PC's RAM by Scanning your PC (Cool!). It may give you a workable Model number.

Last Resort, call Sony tech support or Email them with the Model AND serial number.

If you have recovery CD'S you should use them ...I also have a VAIO with driver, application, ETC. Cd's. If you don't have these then call Sony support, they will tell you where to locate your SN and model number and assist you in downloading the proper software ...

First and foremost, you need to uninstall BASIC completely before you install PROFESSIONAL. Since Basic was the default operating system(platform) the computer had recognizes it, and professional is an invading force unrecognizable. Remember to close all windows and no programs should be running in the background during the installation. Restart the computer after, for it to take effect. Finally, during the process, printer, etc. must be disconnected. Goodluck!
