First to get your iPod back to normal, do this:
1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Next, there are a few things you can try to get your computer to recognize your iPod if it's still not recognizing it. While your iPod is plugged into your computer, open iTunes. iTunes may automatically detect a software update necessary for your iPod. If not, try updating your version of iTunes and the iPod's firmware with the latest version from Apple's website. If that doesn't work, try re-installing iTunes instead of updating. You can also try to plug your iPod into another port. Sometimes that works. And you can try to unplug unneccessary things from other USB ports which could be draining the ports power. If it still doesn't recognize it, maybe you could try plugging your iPod into another computer to see if it recognizes it so you can tell if it's the iPod or the iTunes that is having the problem.

First of all, in order to "unfreeze" the ipod...you have to just reset it (i think its by pressing the Menu and Play button at the same time for a couple of seconds)....[you might want to check the manual to make sure]

As for the computer recognition....you might have to simply reinstall the ipod software that came with it.........

Good luck

best thing is to contact apple about the problem. maybe you do have a virus (i had one but after i got rid of the song that caused it it went back to normal) but send of your ipod to be looked at. look through the files in your computer, it might help identify what caused the problem. but please, GET YOUR IPOD CHECKED BY APPLE! they'll know what to do!

Do you live near an Apple store? If you take the iPod to the store they can look at it and help you fix it.
