Vin Scully is a legend not only in Dodgertown, but in the nation. Nobody has called more World Series than he has-28. He did it for years for CBS-football and baseball-but when John Madden came in, CBS felt that Pat Sumerall would be a better partner and so Scully left CBS for NBC.
Scully moved to NBC and did the Series from there, but NBC lost its contract when Fox and others outbid it. The Dodgers never balked at his doing the work elsewhere. I think they know, if they did, he would move on.
Few of the baseball teams stopped their men from doing national games-Curt Gowdy did Boston games for a long time; Tim McCarver did New York Yank or Met games. No, this time, it was that the network under which he was contracted lost the games, and that he was not hired elsewhere as he was by NBC when he left CBS.
I don't think anyone could sign him now to do a World Series that requires possible traveling between Arizona and New York/Boston or Los Angeles and Philadelphia this year. Now, Scully, at his age, only does limited broadcasts by his choice, not by others.
He has one of the most famous voices and smoothest deliveries in the history of the game. I remember the first time I heard him do a Dodger game recently, watching MLB baseball, and I had thought he had been retired.
I am a 50+ year old man who grew up for so many years listening to Scully do national games. He has such an incredibly famous voice, probably one of the most famous voices in the history of sports broadcasting-not just baseball, He could paint pictures with his delivery as well as Roger Clemens could paint the corner of the plate with his.
It's one of those cases where there truly is a legend in his own time. If Vin Scully is not the greatest baseball broadcaster of all time, he definitely goes down as one of the top 5-6: Mel Allen, Harry Carey, Jack Buck, Curt Gowdy, Tim McCarver and Vin Scully, Red Barber, even Joe Garagiola, Sr. Listening to any of them has been a joy at Series time.

I absolutely love Vin Scully. I got an XM radio this season and he does the first 3 innings of the Dodgers home games on the radio...he is by far the best still out there. That opinion has value since I've heard every radio broadcast at least a couple times from every team and I'm also not even a Dodgers fan.
Listening to him do a game is like listening to someone reading a great novel out loud. He really amazes me and I'm envious because he makes it sound so easy and I know that it's not. I've had experience in announcing games and have a degree in broadcasting. Scully is truly one of a kind.
However, I like Joe Buck, too. Certainly not Scully or JACK Buck, but he'll continue to get better I think.

I'll partially agree. Vin Scully is a legend I wish he would do national broadcasts. Yes Joe Buck is a complete idiot who is living off of his dads name. For the most part the TBS announcers were crap with the lone exception being Steve Stone. It was great hearing Steve doing the Red Sox game of course the other 2 guys with him were horrible.

Vin Scully is a living legend.
That said, he's also nearly 80 years old. He probably doesn't want to have to deal with the rigors of traveling any more than he has to.
It also could have been a contractual thing, in that the Dodgers wouldn't allow him to do it.
I agree with the first answerer above, who said that it was nice to have Steve Stone covering the Sox game last night.

Ditto dude! Vin Scully is God!! He may very well be the best of all time. I put him in the same category as Mel Allen, Harry Kalas and Jack Buck.
The only reason Joe Buck is where he is because of his father and for no other reason. He's terrible.

i don't comprehend in case you are able to truly have a "perfect" announcer of all time because of the fact the quite great ones all have their very very own form. Scully unquestionably is in that very elite class of broadcasters even nevertheless, that certainly is familiar with the thank you to describe a pastime. the folk that are serious of somebody along with his form have provbably been nrought up on televised baseball somewhat then certainly listening to a radio call very frequently, and function had announcers who've a tendency to apply lovable little words mutually with "he long gone" "duck chuckle", and so on., or who look to think of that the followers are tuning in to be certain how clever they may well be, or who've a tendency to over analyze the pastime with using meaningless information (right here comes Manny Ramirez, who's hitting .412 with runners in scoring place in video games performed interior the Pacific time zone on Wednesdays against left surpassed pitchers with 7 letters of their final call.) Scully's form is definitely a byproduct of two issues. First being that he's a radio guy by way of and by way of. the article of a radio guy and a television guy in broadcasting a pastime is carefully diverse. the television guy is only including to the image the viewer is seeing, at a similar time as the radio guy could certainly attempt to create that image interior the listener's recommendations. As for Scully speaking continuously, remember that he works by myself in many cases. He can not only chill out and look ahead to a coloration guy to fill a 2d or 2 at a similar time as he sits back and listens. i'm guessing that countless the followers below the age of 25 or so will by no potential comprehend what makes Scully between the superb at his craft. those are the comparable kinds who will placed somebody like Chris Berman, Chip Caray or Jon Miller up on a pedestal for the undemanding reason that they are extra approximately form then substance. the comparable era will in all threat additionally by no potential delight in everyone from Scully's era - however if or not it is Harry Caray, Jack Brickhouse, Ernie Harwell, Bob Prince, Mel Allen, crimson Barber or any of dozens of others who could certainly paint a image with their words. it somewhat is a shame they have neglected out on them.

Anybody would have been better than those clowns. How in the hell did TBS get the playoffs? The camera work was shaky at best. At one point, I thought there was an earthquake going on at Fenway, since the camera was moving around so much. Oh well. GO YANKEES!
