I wouldn't recommend the Wilmington, NC area for you then. Land is at a premium in the city and is very expensive.

Wilmington is an interesting mix of working people, retirees and college students. Makes for interesting driving.

Maybe a little north of Wilmington towards Castle Hayne and Rocky Point, but not Wilmington proper.

I answered because you are looking for an area to live and I don't think the Wilmington area meets your needs.

You should live in Franklin County, VA. It is just south of a really cool city called Roanoke. Roanoke is the largest city in Southwestern VA. It is a very beautiful area with plenty of mountains. Living in Franklin County it would take anywhere from 10-30 minutes to get to Roanoke. The crime rate is very low, the school system is pretty decent, the taxes are really low, and the cost of living is really really great too! If you want more information on Roanoke you should check out Roanoke.com. From there, you can access information on surrounding counties. I am just partial to Franklin Co. because that is where I am from. If you want to know any more information or need help, please feel free to contact me anytime! Btw, I am 25 too so I have young perspective on everything. I hope that it all works out for the best for you and that wherever you live will be better than you ever thought it would be!

Marion, N.C. Is a beautiful little town. Everyone there is so friendly and kind. I used to have a fiance that lived there, so I visited often. There are a lot of churches because you are in the bible belt, so I would imagine that crime is extremely low, the men have that southern charm and say "Yes, Ma'am!" and the women all want to be your friends! LOL
