Besides PHP being free and open source, is it better then asp.Net or Coldfusion?

Really I want to know .Net? I just started learning PHP and I completed a few learning DVDs about PHP with Lynda.com (One was PHP and MySQL DVD, that just released) and I still am very confused by PHP and how to make it work and etc etc.

Is "asp.Net" better and easier and more affective.

the same question for coldfusion.

I dont really care if php is free and open source. I just want the best and also maybe the .Net is easier to understand ... I'm so lost with PHP and I have been learning it all week.

Any thoughts and comments ... I'm all ears.

The previous commenter above seems a bit biased towards PHP and thought i'd add my two cents since i've used both...

ASP.net is powerful but the problem is it feels a bit bloated (especially the overkill in security). One beauty it has over PHP out of the box is the elegance in separating code from pages ... Traditionally PHP is very ugly in this regard because one option you have is to inline html code, etc with your programming...YUK!

A fault with ASP.net is also with licensing...if you make a company the last thing you want to do is fork over more money to having ASP.net which will also be accompanied with SQL Server (another MS product).

I personally think they both ahve faults but both are also powerful. But when all is said and done for me i'd take PHP simply because i want to save for my growing company. But praise to the people in Redmond for their work on ASP.net....Both the creators of PHP and ASP.Net can learn from each other though because both groups have good ideas that can be implmented by the other.

PhP may appear a bit complex, but if you have a little experience in C/C++, php is very similar.
ASP(.net) is a microsoft product and not very reliable (appart from being expensive, especially with ad-ons that you will need later.).
PhP is considered by a great percentage of programmers as the best code for the web, and used by millions...
Visit www.skytargets.com, wed designs, "some truth about coders and coding": there is an article there that explains the differences/advantages of both PhP and ASP.
As far as "efficiency" is concerned, ASP is far behind PhP: ASP only runs on Window servers, (slow by definition), while PhP runs on ANY server, hence usually on Unix servers (notably faster).
If you feel confused by PhP, go to www.php.net: there are good tutorials there that will help you.
You will also find 1000's of code snipets.
Best regards,

for consumer-friendly issues, use own domicile page. For greater complicated initiatives utilising alot of business enterprise good judgment, you will need much less of a headache utilising ASP.internet. no count if that's open source or not is beside the point. once you're greater of partial to scripting, use own domicile page. once you're greater partial to merchandise oriented Programming, use ASP.internet (whether instructions may be created/utilized in own domicile page, i does not advise it).
