Eighty-Four quarters are lined up side by side on a table. You begin by replacing every second quarter with a dime. After you have completed this task, you replace every third coin with a nickel. Once this is completed, you replace every fourth coin with a penny. What is the total value of the final 84 coins on the table?

You can do this using a Venn diagram
In the numbers 1-84, there are:
1) 14 multiples of 2 alone
2) 21 multiples of 2 and 4 alone
3) 7 multiples of 2,3,4
4) 7 multiples 2 and 3 alone
5) 14 multiples of 3 alone
6) 28 numbers that are multiples of neither 2, 3, nor 4

That means in the end, there are:
28 Quarters
21 Pennies
21 Nickels
14 Dimes

If you draw out the pattern a little bit you will see the pattern repeats every 16 coins.

Count up the value of the 16 coins

16 goes into 84 5 times with a remainder of 4

the last 4 coins are whatever the first 4 coins are of the pattern.

Add it all up.
$1.79X5+$0.41=$9.36

1 dime = 0.1 U.S. dollar
1 nickel = 0.05 U.S. dollar

There are 28 quarters = 28 * 0.25 = $7.00
There are 14 dimes = 14 * 0.1 = $1.40
There are 21 nickels = 21 * 0.05 = $1.05
There are 21 pennies = 21 * 0.01 = $0.21

Total value of the final 84 coins = $9.66
