There are no Nazis, no Mongols, no Huns, and there is no Napoleon. What is the point of keeping our mega-expensive army? Oh, that's right, bully third-world nations, veto health care plans for children and anything that would benefit the domestic home front.

What does the country that is number 2 on the list spend? Last I read, it was China with 10 billion, compared to our 700 billion estimated, after Iraq and A-stan are factored in.

And we think the terrorists are the bad guys? Har har har! The more and more I look at US soldiers, the more they look like Storm troopers. Oh, the irony!

*I am not anti-military, but this is not a video game, this is not something to be played with! This is reality, and the United States does not need this much military force! You guys can spout all the rhetoric you want, but it shouldn't cost trillions to fight guys who have a budget in the six to seven figures at most!

I love these crazy people who think we should spend more on weapons than on people.

Um, are we in World War III or something? Are the Canadians threatening our borders?

It is truly amazing, the civilized man of the 21st century, is thinking of building more killing machines. I am for one united peace keeping force combined from militaries of all the countries.

countries individual military could be used better said abused by, greedy, power hungry leaders, just as it's happening now with our military. they are being abused by big fat corps. Since WW II US military has been offensive and not defensive.
I for one am tired of witnessing, invading, killing raping and stealing from weak governments, so some of us spoiled and coincided People talk about nuking other countries, just bcoz, you have a job in defense better yet offense industry.
If i was in your shoos. i would start looking for another job.
war era is over, no more getting Rich and fat, by killing babies, get that in your heads, if u can?????

THe major responsibility of the Federal government is to maintain the military for protection of the nation for times of war and attacks, so in an increasingly violent world do we cut our military spending, NO. On the other hand, social programs are NOT the responsibilities of the federal government, so should we be increasing the number of social programs and private business take overs? again a resounding NO. This administration is backwards on what they are supposed to be doing for this nation. Keeping out illegals is one thing that is their mandate, securing the nations borders, and insuring there is an ample armed forces to protect and defend. Instead, we are looking at people who claim we should cut military spending and create a national health care plan that should not even be forced on the nation. PS. it has not cost trillions, but the health care plan will increase spending by over a trillion. You do realize that only about 20% of the nations spending is for the military, the largest portion is for social programs. So I am guessing it is a video game you are playing because it is not based on reality. China may spend less, but guess what, every individual over the age of 18 MUST serve in the military there for at least 2 years once they are out of school. It is not a volunteer thing there, and the costs they inform you are limited by what their government will actually tell you, which means it could be ten times the amount you think it is.

To answer your question, yes we need a much stronger & larger military force. If you read the report given to Congress in regards to China's military build-up, it is essential for us to do something. If you look at the situation right now with Taiwan trying to join the United Nations and declare their independence we could be in for some trouble. We have a treaty with Japan to defend the island of Taiwan. China has said time and time again, they see Taiwan as a part of their territory and will take it back by force if necessary. This is why I am so curious why China is modernizing their military. This year they used an anti-satellite missile to destroy an older satellite in space. I fear they are preparing for a confrontation with a force like the U.S. which now uses satellites for GPS, communications, and other information that enables us to function today. We need to fix this situation in Iraq so we can update our much needed forces in the Pacific. Sorry for the rambling but it is essential to increase and update our capabilities in an ever increasing competitive world.

We are the ones and only ones that turns the world against or along us, we used to be a country that was "groovy" we used to aimed VERTICALLY to the stars and now we aim HORIZONTALLY one against each other.
We are humans too, we are not exempt of a military dictatorship, in the White House, Hey! that we can't believe that can happened to us doesn't mean that it DID happen!.
We just have to stand up again like our ancestors did in 1776, and perhaps create, not mend, a new United States, that will be an example of future for mankind, not of death and destruction.

Yes...and change our foreign policy. we out spend all other countries combined and they say we are not safe. but by that measure we will never be safe, because it is so profitable to not be safe for big business.

Our country is now geared to an arms economy bred in an artificially induced psychosis of war hysteria and an incessant propaganda of fear.
Douglas MacArthur
Our government has kept us in a perpetual state of fear - kept us in a continuous stampede of patriotic fervor - with the cry of grave national emergency.
Douglas MacArthur
I like to believe that people in the long run are going to do more to promote peace than our governments. Indeed, I think that people want peace so much that one of these days governments had better get out of the way and let them have it.
Dwight D. Eisenhower

I don't like your statement that US soldiers are storm troopers. That being said, the US spends more than the rest of the world combined on our military. This can't be justified based on any threat around the world. We should pull our troops out of Korea, Japan, Yemen, England, Germany, and other countries. We have aircraft carriers and heavy lift aircraft to deliver troops anywhere in the world. We should also cancel all contracts with Blackwater. Our military expenditures are similar to ancient Rome and you know how that turned out.

It is time to cut social spending and all other fed gvt spending that the fed gvt has no business spending money and double its military spending and military technology spending.

You just pretty much said that the US soldiers are the bad guys, not the terrorists.

You have ZERO credibility.

LOL
You sound like Europe before WW2. Germany isnt a threat Germany isnt a threat.
Thank goodness people like you will never run the country.
The US Constitution spells out what the fed gvt should be focusing on. Military is one of them. Education, welfare, social security are NOT responsibilities of the fed gvt.
I guess this redneck, that grew up in southern ca on the coast her entire life, knows a little more about the Constitution than you.
You cant build up a military when the threat is lined up at your door pointing its guns at you. It is a little too late. The fact is that other nations are developing devastating weapons and we need to make sure we have a way to fight against that threat, even if the other nations happen to be friendly right now. Events change alliances. Things like 911 can drastically change the shape of the world and how we look at it and view threats.

You can blindly close your eyes to the true nature of the planet we still live on but those preparing for our defense cant. You can live in la la land chanting songs and trying to smile your enemies away but while you are doing that people that have a clue will be preparing for the future.

As long as we have the strongest most technologically advanced military we have a certain amount of security. That security you apparently take for granted. Not only do we have that security, but our allies have it as well.
The only president I ever want in the White House is one that makes sure we always stay on top because then they are doing their job in protecting this nation.

I don't think it's a bad idea to have an army, but I do think it's being very badly used.

The current middle east fiasco is a huge waste of resources. This nation may come to deeply regret it one day.

Just because people act like drunk football fans for the army doesn't mean they have the slightest idea what's best for national defense.

Are you comapring our troops to Nazis you liberal scum. Why don't you take up arms with Al Qaeda in Iraq and let the marines deal with you? Don't give me this crap that you aren't anti military, You are referring them to Nazis in your opening statement. Why can't you stand by what you said you gutless coward. I'd rather cut back on any government program that you are taking advantage of and stealing the taxpayers money.
