I have a friend who (in college) tutored a gal who was an "exotic dancer" to make money while in school. She made great bucks. $1,000.00 in tips over a weekend. Not bad for a college student for two and a half days (nights) of work.
The question here lies within your own heart... Do you mind the stereotype that strippers have? Can you handle that. You already say that you have a moral problem with it. What good is it if you will hate yourself for it?
Do you care if a bunch of guys (and maybe gals) watch you dance naked on a daily basis? Would you care if you are rexognized out and about or in classes?
By the way.. she graduated and stopped dancing.

If you do "both", then I think you'll find many dancers who have the same goals.
As you've already seen here there are a lot of people who know someone who is or has funded their education in this manner.
There is nothing morally wrong with dancing or dancing naked.
I live in Tampa and there is and has been a proliferation of unsubstantiated propaganda disseminated by the "wholesomes" that attempts to use lies or distortions to discredit the industry.
Do a news search for Joe Redner and look at at some of the issues.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Redner
I've been to a club a couple of times [when I was in college]
It's not my thing, but it's certainly NOT what others claim to be a "black hole of sin".
It often is disclosed that those who oppose have never been to a club or done any type of research.
[The police down here wish the "pressure" from the "righteous" would stop, so that they [law enforcement] could use there resources in a better manner]
Good Luck whatever your decision

No, stripping is not art. To take off your clothes in front of complete strangers for money is probably one of the most disrespectful things a woman can do with her body. Plus, its not good to be in that environment. Lots of times men follow strippers home and harass them. And even though its illegal, the public is not as quick to respond to a stripper as someone that isn't. It's like a prostitute saying that she's been raped. yes, it's wrong, but look at the line of work she's doing and exposing herself to.
You won't see too any self-respecting girls dancing like that and not too many guys want to date a stripper. Yes, they'll gawk at your body, but they won't take you seriously. Just a cheap look and sex trick. Ignore the first poster. You'll regret it later if you do it.
PS, your statement about a good education...Are you in college and looking for a part-time job? If so, that's even worse. If you're in school, you need a job that will advance your career. It's hard to find a job when you graduate. Remember that in 2007, everyone has degrees and you need something to set you apart from the other 100 applicants. Get a job in your field; even if it's somewhere like Target or a restaurant. Do something reputable that you can be proud of and also because you'll need references for the future. Plus, you never know when someone might see you.

i had a friend who used to be a dancer. Before I knew this, i could tell you she was a very smart girl, and was always taking charge of serious situations, and after i found out i could tell you the same. Sad thing is though, that is not the real world. When word got out about her (not from me) at work, she had to quit from the embarrassment. Seemed like everywhere she worked, she had to up and leave because someone at some point found out and told everyone. She's in a different state now.

Do u seriously expect us to believe that any guy that goes to a strip club thinks of you as an artists??????????? and do u truely believe the women that strip there think of themselves as artists? Most are probably trying to earn a living but they arent naive enough to think of stripping as an art form. Its just a legal way to separate an idiotic male from his money lol
As for the moral issue u are having, that is your conscience trying to prevent you from doing this because deep down inside your heart, you truely believe its wrong.

You can make a really big wad (pun intended) of cash doing it. The two people I know who have done it have no regrets about it now, nor did they at the time.
As to the image issue: Ehh, I doubt it. Not in a gay club anyway.
If you decide to do it, remember it's a job - work the room (smile at ALL the customers, give each a little show, etc).

I am not an exotic dancer.. nor would i be because its just not my cup of tea.. If you are a honest, trustworthy person, you are not NOT sexually permiscuous or a whore.. and you are totally comfortable with who you are and your body..
then do what you wanna do girl! If you can dance and still feel like your identity and confidence is the same then you should understand that is just another way of earning money.
Women pose wearing not much more in magazines and try and portray as much "sex appeal" as they possibly can and that is considered acceptable.. so dont feel like less of a person because you have it and are comfortable enough to flaunt it.. besides.. any guys who hate.. probobly cant compare to what youll make ;) $$$$$$$$
work it!

Lots of women made lots of money stripping to pay for their education. Just don't get yourself sucked into the stereotypical lifestyle of a stripper.

Stripping is not art, sorry. You can think it is and pretend it is but it isn't. The men that lick their lips and slip dollars in your garter will prove it to you.
I've never done it but know people that have. The money is good but the dignity you lose never made it worth it.
